On the Mainstage of WMF, the International Fair and Festival on Innovation: AI, Tech, and Digital, the WMF Awards were presented, recognizing innovation and social impact. Each year, these awards honor a range of individuals and projects striving to build a better future.
Among the 2024 edition awardees were prominent figures such as Nicola Gratteri, Floriana Bulfon, Fabio Caressa, Maccio Capatonda, and Simone Bianco, along with organizations like .lumen, WWF, and Fondazione Marconi.
They join previous winners, including Pope Francis, Manuel Castells, Federico Faggin, Ivano Gabrielli, Save The Children, Luisa Rizzo, Italian National Team defenders Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci, Mulino Bianco, Whirlpool, actors Vincenzo Salemme and Pif, the editorial team of Lercio and La7, Cecilia Strada’s ResQ project, Roy Paci, director Mauro Mancini, Rai Accessibility, and Mediaset.

Innovation in a trophy

The WMF Awards 2024 trophy is an innovative example of sustainability, made from recycled bioplastic with natural pigments derived from industrial waste. The base and the circle are crafted from rPLA pigmented with rice residues, while the "WMF" lettering is in rPLA with pigments from wine waste.

Floriana Bulfon, for her commitment as an investigative journalist and her fight against organized crime, received the WMF Award for Legality. This recognition celebrates Bulfon's courage and dedication in promoting legality and informing the public on issues of social justice.

Simone Bianco received the Award for Research for Future for his technological research in service of humanity, recognizing the crucial contribution of him and his entire team in improving the human condition through valuable scientific innovations.

Award Climate Change Awareness Campaign & Award Green Ambassador

WWF received the Climate Change Awareness Campaign Award for its innovative, ironic, and impactful campaign. Created in collaboration with Maccio Capatonda, the award also honored him as a Green Ambassador.

In 2023, Switzerland ranked first in the United Nations Global Innovation Index. WMF awarded the Innovative Country of the Year Award to Stefan Zwicky from the Swiss Business Hub, representing the nation and recognizing its commitment to technological and scientific development during a celebratory ceremony.

Fabio Caressa received the Cross Generational Award for his impact in the field of sports information and entertainment, successfully connecting with different generations through various media platforms.

Award Accessibility & Tech

The Accessibility & Tech Award was given to Cornel Amariel for the innovative use of technology applied to social causes. Thanks to the artificial intelligence developed by the Romanian startup .lumen, visually impaired individuals will be able to move independently.

Award Innovation Technology

150 years ago, on April 25, Guglielmo Marconi was born in Bologna. He was the Nobel Prize laureate, father of wireless telegraphy, and pioneer of modern telecommunications. WMF awarded the Marconi Foundation the Innovation Technology Award for its extraordinary contribution to technological progress.

Emerging Band Contest: the award goes to Giargo

Giargo is the winning band of the Emerging Band Contest held in collaboration with RDS Next. The young artists received their award and performed on the Mainstage of the event, in front of the international audience present.

Vero Volley awarded the Sport for Future Award to the team "I figli di Michi" for their commitment and talent in promoting sports values and inclusivity. The award highlighted the importance of sports as a tool for growth and social sharing.

Drone Soccer winner: Team Korea

Team Korea won the international Drone Soccer Club Challenge, defeating Italy and Turkey. This spectacular eSport made its European debut exclusively at WMF 2024, offering a unique experience of technological competition.
