The Festival promotes and strongly addresses the issue of Legality and the fight against the mafia.
Responsibility, Duty, Education and Culture are the foundations on which to build a society free from corruption and wrongdoing, capable of preserving everyone's freedom. For years we have been pursuing a path that aims to achieve this goal through digital and beyond, involving everyone: from the youngest, our future, to the oldest, our present.
We talk about responsibility through the invitation to promote legality and cultivate its culture, on social media and on the web, because digital is - and must be - a tool to fight the mafia.

SOME VIDEOS OF OUR INITIATIVES
The WMF has always seen numerous speakers, guests and artists alternate on stage, addressing the topic of legality and the fight against the mafia from different perspectives.
During the 2022 edition, prominent figures in the fight against organized crime alternated on the Mainstage, such as the Public Prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, who spoke about the rooting of mafia culture at a European level and the tools that innovation offers to fight crime, or the Director of the DIA Maurizio Vallone, who described the new criminal activities within digital spaces, still unexplored and poorly regulated. Pif and Mimmo Lucano were guests of the Festival once again, the former presented together with Tiziano di Cara and Andrea Delmonte the ilLegal project, an agenda that tells young people the stories of those who fought the mafia; the latter told, with his lawyers Andrea Daqua and Giuliano Pisapia, the developments and controversies of the trial in which he is involved.
In recent years, the Deputy Prosecutor of the Reggio Calabria District Anti-Mafia Directorate, Giuseppe Lombardo, has graced the stage of the WMF, outlining the key elements of the fight against the 'ndrangheta today, speaking about the risks of an incorrect use of capital deriving from the PNRR. The theme of legality was also addressed through the seventh art, with the intervention of the director of the animated short on the 'ndrangheta "La grande Onda" Francesco Tortorella, while the current director of l'Espresso Lirio Abbate, journalist and essayist, and Floriana Bulfon, investigative journalist, participated in the WMF2020 in November. The two offered an important contribution during the panel dedicated to legality and the role of journalism, speaking about the concrete risk of strengthening the mafias precisely in times of emergency; Claudio and Paola Regeni spoke about legality and justice in relation to the story of Giulio Regeni and the constant need to protect and respect human rights in Italy and around the world; Luisa Impastato, a frequent guest of the Festival, from Cinisi recalled how important it is to carry on the memory and struggle of her uncle Peppino Impastato; Federica Angeli, a journalist from La Repubblica, who has previously spoken at the Festival, recounted her daily fight against organized crime, confirming, once again, the crucial role of social networks.
Other guests included Giovanni Paparcuri, a survivor of the Chinnici attack; Angelo Corbo, a member of the Falcone escort and a survivor of the Capaci massacre; Tiziano and Piergiorgio Di Cara, Salvatore Cusimano, Director of RAI Sicilia and author of the live broadcast of the Capaci massacre; Roberta Iannì, daughter of an entrepreneur killed by the mafia for helping the State during an anti-mafia operation.
Aware of the power of art and music in conveying messages of awareness and mobilization, the Festival has always combined speeches and talks with moments of show and entertainment.
The WMF2022 was inaugurated by the concert of Frankie hi-nrg mc with his songs of social commitment that condemn mafias and corruption. In the same edition also the return of RoyPaci with a concert, after having participated in the previous editions with his songs and the song and project "Siamo Capaci", developed on the occasion of the anniversary of the Capaci massacre and created together with numerous Sicilian artists.
The Modena City Ramblers - after opening the WMF17 with the song "I cento passi" - on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Peppino Impastato's Radio Aut, played and participated in the WMF2020 in November.
The 2018 edition then hosted the musical contest Rassegna nuove tendencies musicali created by Rete 100 Passi and awarded the winner, Riccardo Maffoni, with the Peppino Impastato Award - Targa 100 Passi.
During WMF2022, the Legality Award was presented to the Public Prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, for his commitment to breaking down the culture of illegality; The WMF Social Innovation Award was instead assigned to the director and screenwriter Pif - at his second Award after the one in 2017 for the NoMa app, together with Tiziano Di Cara and Roberta Iannì - for his commitment to social issues, legality and the fight against the mafia, on the occasion of the presentation of the ilLegal project.
During the previous editions of the Festival, training talks were held on the fight against crime thanks to digital. Among the many: Riccardo Meggiato - of PlayGeneration - illustrated how drug trafficking moves from the digital world; Lorenzo Tondo - journalist for The Guardian - described how social networks are used in human trafficking.
For the value recognized by his investigative works, an award was also given to the journalist Paolo Borrometi. Finally, the WMF awarded the Paolo Borsellino National Prize to Valentino Giampaoli and Eleonora Magno, respectively artist and head of the institute who promoted the work “Il sorriso”, a stone monument dedicated to Falcone and Borsellino that remained on display during the Festival in 2019.
