Memory optimizations in Machine Learning

The evolution of AI has largely been shaped by advancements in compute power. However, an equally critical factor—memory—has emerged as a defining bottleneck for the next generation of AI infrastructure. While GPUs and TPUs have seen exponential improvements in FLOPS, memory bandwidth and capacity have struggled to keep pace. Today, training and inference at scale are constrained as much by memory limitations as by compute. The financial implications are staggering: High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) now costs nearly as much as compute, and memory bandwidth is one of the leading constraints in large-scale AI deployments. The infrastructure of tomorrow must be designed with memory as a first-class consideration. This keynote explores the increasing role of memory in AI workloads, real-world examples of memory bottlenecks, and strategies for designing AI infrastructure that balances compute and memory effectively.

Small Budgets, Big Results: How AI Could Be a Game-Changer for Niche Sports

In an increasingly competitive sports landscape dominated by major investments, Artificial Intelligence stands out as a key resource for smaller organizations, often disadvantaged by limited financial means and low visibility. This talk will provide a general overview of AI applications in sports, with a specific focus on how advanced technologies—now accessible even with modest budgets—can help close the gap between mainstream and niche sports. From marketing to scouting, from promotion to athletic performance, AI today enables niche clubs and federations to achieve results that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. Through concrete examples and future scenarios, the session will explore the opportunities, strategies, and challenges that AI technologies offer in driving exponential and sustainable growth for lesser-known sports, helping small organizations become major players.

Artificial Intelligence and Neuroscience: What Changes When the User Becomes an Algorithm?

Neuromartech is already here: it’s not a dystopia but a new market. The user becomes an abstraction, our digital twin lives experiences on our behalf, and it’s an algorithm that gets emotionally engaged with content created by another algorithm. What exactly is Neuromartech, which companies are driving it, what solutions are already available on the market, and what risks arise when we remove humans from the Customer Experience equation? As the Director of the International Neuromartech Observatory, I will present unique data and insights on this emerging market, and offer the audience some reflections on Ethics in AI.

Micro Models, Macro Benefits: What’s Beyond LLMs?

Today, talking about artificial intelligence often automatically means discussing multimodal LLMs. Fueled by hype and widespread inexperience, these ultra-powerful models are often used even for simple tasks where much lighter (and more efficient) solutions would be more than enough. In this talk, we will pragmatically explore how to integrate AI at the product level, evaluating when it makes sense to leverage an LLM and when smaller models actually bring greater benefits in terms of cost, performance, and technical sustainability.

Nell'e-commerce descrivono i prodotti. I risultati?

The Size-Performance Paradox: When Tiny Models Fall Short in Edge Optimization

In the realm of edge AI, the conventional wisdom suggests that smaller models naturally translate to faster, more efficient performance on resource-constrained devices. However, my talk will challenge this assumption by unveiling the "size-performance paradox": the reality that choosing a smaller model doesn’t always yield the expected improvements in speed, energy consumption, or real-time reliability. I’ll demonstrate how hardware-aware deep learning compression and careful optimization balance model size with real-world performance, sharing practical insights and case studies for deploying AI on resource-constrained devices. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to effectively tailor AI models for edge deployment.

The Future of Travel in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Travel has always been a deeply human act—driven by curiosity, instinct, and emotion. It’s through travel that we test ourselves, make choices, discover who we are, and decide where we want to go.
Artificial Intelligence increasingly searches for us, inspires us, suggests, translates, guides, books, photographs, and reviews… often before we even realize we need it.
The journey, once a lived experience, now risks becoming an automated process. So the question is no longer just about tourism, but something deeper: Are we still choosing? Or are we getting used to being chosen? In an age where technology no longer merely assists us but begins to anticipate us, it's time to pause and reflect—not only on what it means to travel, but also on what it means to decide, explore, and live. Let’s uncover together the opportunities and paradoxes of AI-enhanced tourism.

Vibe Coding and Beyond: How to Use Skills You Don’t Actually Have

In a video, I had my 5-year-old son try programming with AI to see how far someone who has never written a line of code can go. The result? Much more surprising than I expected. But Vibe Coding is just the beginning. In this talk, I’ll show you how AI today allows me to use skills I don’t truly possess: from design to creative writing, from marketing to data analysis. We’ll explore the most effective tools together and, above all, how to learn to ask the right questions to get real results. 🚀

Locking Bad: Optimistic vs Pessimistic Concurrency Control

Driving Intelligence: a benchmark for AGI

In this talk, I undertake a dive into two ostensibly unrelated—and potentially profoundly consequential—technological developments of the twenty-first century: Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). AVs are designed to navigate complex real-world environments without human intervention, while AGI represents a form of Artificial Intelligence (AI) endowed with human-level cognitive abilities. I do this specifically because I advocate that progress towards full vehicular autonomy stands as a novel and precise benchmark of humanity’s progress towards AGI.

From Post-Truth to Stor-AI: The Future of Historical Storytelling

The interpretation of history is full of subjectivity and biases. Through scientific experiments, I discovered that three Large Language Models agree more with each other on historical interpretation than three humans do. But can we truly use AI in the field of history? In the era of post-truth, AIs are increasingly trained on misinformation, which is why it is essential to create historical datasets validated by the scientific community. This talk will be valuable for journalists, teachers, and AI experts.

Present and Near Future of Artificial Intelligence

In 2025, the question is no longer whether machines can be intelligent, nor whether they can converse with us without being recognized. Today, the ambition has grown: we are now talking about machines capable of performing the same tasks as humans at a comparable level of competence. What path are we following to build them, how is progress measured, and what happens next?
Is it possible to imagine a world in which we are surpassed in certain intellectual tasks? Let’s take stock.

Creative who? When the author is an algorithm

And what do we risk if we stop asking who is really behind each work?

Rich AI, Poor AI: Use Cases, Practical Examples, and Proven Methods on How to Use (and How Not to Use) Artificial Intelligence Systems for Data Analysis

In his book Instructions for Becoming Unhappy, philosopher Paul Watzlawick explains how people tend to unconsciously engage in self-sabotaging behaviors that lead them to unhappiness. Similarly, today it is equally easy for marketers and web professionals to use AI in data analysis activities unconsciously or indiscriminately, with harmful consequences for their business and clients. In this talk, I will show objectives, practical uses, and methods to safely and effectively leverage Artificial Intelligence systems in specific Digital Analytics activities serving marketing and advertising. From data enrichment to gain more complete information about website or ecommerce audiences, to correlating different data sets to launch better online campaigns, to optimizing tables, reports, and dashboards to extract new audience segments and prepare more profitable offers and marketing campaigns, and more.

Generative AI & Soft Skills

In an era where artificial intelligence is redefining daily life, it becomes important to look within ourselves and rediscover who we are through the lens of data and technology. This talk refers to a unique, dual dialogue between the self and the other, made possible by the extraordinary universe of AI. It offers an opportunity for intimate and profound reflection on how technology can become a compass guiding us toward our center, building a bridge between who we are, who we choose to become, and what we can let go of. It is a journey that invites us to recognize what AI can do better than us, freeing the human being to focus on what makes us irreplaceable: our essence, love, and care for ourselves and others. Told with a style that weaves creativity, reflection, and accessibility, it shares personal stories and concrete experiences, offering not only tools to welcome AI with awareness and courage but above all an invitation to embrace one’s most authentic self with love. It is a journey-dialogue toward self-discovery and self-choice, a path where evidence becomes an ally and data transforms into opportunities to choose oneself and love oneself authentically.

Man VS Machine: can we actually tell the difference between AI and human material?

Recent studies have revealed how we show different behaviours to chatbots that are more 'robotic' versus others that show more human features, but what does our brain see when we are faced with AI content? The skin conductance response (SCR) is an indirect measure of our nervous system's activation in response to a particular set of stimuli and has become a biological marker for attention, familiarity and emotive states. It displays pre-conscious activation, measure of a 'gut feeling', which has been used widely in consumer neuroscience to analyse how we instinctively respond to branded content and campaigns. We know that AI-generated stimuli can sometimes trigger the 'uncanny valley' feeling, but can our brains tell the difference between AI and human, where does it draw the line and how does this affect our behaviour when we are faced with it in marketing? In an attempt to answer these questions, Giulia ran a neuromarketing study measuring SCR when participants were watching AI and human generated content, and the preliminary results paint an interesting story about the future and ethics of marketing.

Biased AI=Biased society : Uncovering gender and racial discrimination in AI-based systems

While AI systems are rapidly transforming human life, there has been a growing concern for a decade on prejudices and systematic discrimination caused by those sociotechnical systems embedded in critical domains and education, criminal justice, healthcare, and social security/support. While society tries to proceed with the capabilities and limitations of AI to mirror societal biases into the monopolistic systems, the question is no longer "How to develop AI systems that are unbiased" but "Who decides about AI systems and data embodied into those models.". This speech will enlighten the critical questions around GenAI applications from a socio-technical perspective, debating about the data economy created in past decade, challenging the status quo, and the way next generations will be effected by it.

The Zen of AI

AI is rapidly transitioning from a future concept to a mainstream reality, fundamentally changing how we live, work, and connect. My work with AI at Google gives me a firsthand view of this major shift. Yet, my grasp of its profound effects is also deeply influenced by my personal quest for a more meaningful life, which encompasses Zen as well as the grounding practices of music, movement, and meditation. Through my integrated practice of presence and self-awareness – a transformative journey that empowered me to overcome many internal battles – I ultimately came to understand their crucial importance, a realization that speaks to a key challenge of our time: As screens and algorithms increasingly shape our realities, how do we stay anchored in ourselves and actively nurture our wellbeing? And as AI becomes an ever-growing part of our world, what fundamental ethical guidelines should steer this powerful technology to ensure it enhances, rather than diminishes, our human experience This isn't a talk about fearing AI; it's about gaining a clear-eyed perspective. We need to see AI for what it is: a powerful technology built on probabilistic models, essentially a mirror reflecting our own cognitive frameworks and, at times, our cognitive biases. To better understand this dynamic, I've been exploring insights from seemingly different domains: the age-old wisdom of Buddhism and the counterintuitive principles of quantum physics. Both, in their own way, offer perspectives on interconnectedness and the dynamic nature of reality – concepts that I believe have surprising relevance to our relationship with AI.  Ultimately, this isn't just a technical discussion. It's a human one. It's about how we find our footing, our sense of balance, a kind of "Zen"  in this rapidly evolving AI landscape. It's about fostering intentionality and presence so that these technologies truly serve to enhance our well-being, rather than inadvertently diminishing our sense of self. Let's explore how we can navigate this future with a combination of informed curiosity and a strong connection to our authentic selves, guiding our way ethically in the future of AI.

Artificial Intelligence + Oceanic Feeling.

Beyond AI: The Path to Artificial Consciousness and Its Ethical Challenges

Imagine a world where AI doesn’t just think—it feels, understands, and even questions its existence. As we push the boundaries of artificial intelligence, we’re not just teaching machines to perform tasks; we’re on the brink of creating something that could one day be conscious. But with this power comes a profound responsibility. In this talk, we’ll explore the ethical dilemmas of artificial consciousness—what it means for AI to be aware, and whether it deserves rights, autonomy, or even empathy. We’ll look at how AI might evolve beyond intelligence, and how humanity must act now to create a safe and ethical framework for this future. It’s a journey into the unknown, but together, we’ll reflect on how we can shape AI’s future in a way that benefits all of us.
