Digital Transformation in Healthcare: Opportunities and Critical Issues

Digital transformation represents a strategic lever for improving the access, quality, efficiency, and sustainability of the National Health Service (SSN). However, the adoption of digital technologies and AI-based solutions does not automatically translate into useful innovation: it requires solid evidence, public governance, value assessment, protection of equity, and integration into clinical-organizational processes. This presentation analyzes the opportunities and challenges of digitalizing Italian healthcare, highlighting the necessary conditions for technology to truly contribute to improving health outcomes, reducing inequalities, and strengthening a universal, fair, and sustainable healthcare system.
