In 2022, 50,659 occupational diseases were reported in Italy, with more than 70 percent involving the musculoskeletal and connective system. These figures highlight the urgent need for digital transformation in domestic and international industry, especially considering the aging of the European population, projected to increase by 30 percent by 2050 for those over 65. To counter these challenges, iCub, a humanoid robot from the Italian Institute of Technology, is evolving into ergoCub, a future collaborator to prevent musculoskeletal diseases. This prevention will also be supported by artificial intelligence-enabled wearable technologies that quantify and predict risks during common work activities. The collaborative project between the Italian Institute of Technology and INAIL, called ergoCub, aimed to develop such technologies to protect workers of the future, presenting the results in this report.
