The Unspoken Words (and the Ones We Shouldn't Be Ashamed of)

There are journalistic expressions that have entered the jargon, and others that we do not pronounce because they seem offensive, when in fact they are the only ones that should be spoken. It is obviously incorrect to write negr, we all know that. But it is also incorrect to write zingar, no more no less. Autism is not a disease, autistico is not an insult, Down is capitalized because the Down syndrome is named after the doctor who first attempted a classification, and it is not the translation of the English word "down". No one is "down" in Down syndrome. It is preferable to use the term "deaf" instead of "non-hearing", it is wrong to say "differently abled", and it is better to say "person with disabilities". Alternatively - in a title - it is acceptable to write "disabled". Because "disabled" is not an insult, it is instead offensive not to know the right words to relate to others.
