The humanoid robot iCub3 was showcased by the IIT on the Mainstage during WMF 2022. iCub is an avatar robot that can be controlled remotely: the user is able to transfer motion to the machine, which at the same time relays environmental perceptions. Similar technologies could be used in healthcare and workplaces, as well as in disaster and emergency situations, to protect the lives of rescuers.

In a spectacular performance on the Pool Stage, it was possible to attend - for the first time in Italy - Gravity’s Flying Show: Alex Wilson put on his Jet Suit and, amidst the roar of the engines and the amazement of the audience, took flight like a cyborg. Balancing his weight and movements, he offered us an incredible show inspired by the imagery of superheroes.

The robot Sophia is the world's most advanced humanoid. As a guest at the WMF 2022, she interacted with Cosmano Lombardo on the Mainstage talking about new developments in robot-human relations. Sophia demonstrated excellent comprehension, analysis, and communication skills. For two days, she was also in the exhibition area to meet with the public.

At WMF 2022 visitors were able to wear VR headsets provided by Rai Cinema to bring the general public closer to the new horizon of audiovisual entertainment. During the three-day event, it was possible to discover the new potential of the film industry resulting from the added value of virtual reality.

Boston Dynamics' robot dog SPOT was a guest at the Festival, where it demonstrated its movement and interaction skills. It is a quadruped robot that can move with ease over rough terrain. Thanks to its features, SPOT overcomes the limitations of rovers and tracked vehicles that would have difficulty tackling obstacles on the ground level.

In the exhibition area of the WMF 2022, it was possible to see the solar-powered vehicle Emilia 4, developed by the University of Bologna. This car was created with the aim of demonstrating a different model of mobility, but also for experimental purposes and to participate in sports competitions.

Inside the WMF 2022 exhibition area, Teotronico, the pianist robot, and Robidone, the environmentally-conscious robot, amused the Festival audience with live music and entertainment. They are both made using recycled/upcycled materials.

The Italian State Police with its Bomb Disposal Squad showed its remotely controllable tracked robot to the public. Equipped with a camera and a hydraulic pump, it can move over difficult terrain to detect and defuse explosive devices. It is used in high-risk operations allowing police officers to operate safely.

The One Love Machine band, consisting of robots made exclusively from recycled metal materials, performed on the WMF 2022 Pool Stage. The focus on sustainability and environmental protection resulted in a captivating show that surprised and entertained the audience.
