Artificial Intelligence and Gender Stereotypes
Artificial Intelligence represents a tremendous opportunity today. An opportunity for creating new services, for the world of work, and for improving the society in which we live. But as always, with great opportunity comes great responsibility, and we must ensure that technology and its widespread use do not create disparities or exacerbate existing ones. Therefore, we will address the issue of gender discrimination perpetuated by AI systems by reviewing some cases from recent years and discussing the underlying motivations behind them.
In this speech, we explore the regulatory landscape introduced by the new European AI Act, with an enhanced focus on data-centric strategies for managing artificial intelligence systems. This discussion centers on how high-quality data underpins the compliance requirements and technical guidelines of the Act. We will delve into crucial aspects such as robustness, accuracy, and human oversight, emphasizing the role of data in achieving these metrics. As artificial intelligence reshapes industries and societies worldwide, understanding the regulatory framework that governs its deployment becomes increasingly important. By prioritizing a data-centric approach, we aim to dissect the complexities of the AI Act and propose innovative solutions that advocate for a future where data ethics and innovation are intertwined. Join us as we navigate through the implications of the AI Act and champion a data-driven future in AI regulation.

Brand, SEO, and Generative Search
After launching and experimenting with SGE since May 2023, Google started testing generative search even for those who had not requested to be part of the experiment in Search Labs. This is - or seems to be - the preliminary step to its final release. What does the release of SGE mean for all companies that see organic search traffic as an essential channel for their business model? What are the risks and potential benefits? How does it change the way of thinking, planning, and implementing SEO? How does generative search integrate into the broader Google ecosystem and beyond Search? In his talk, Gianluca Fiorelli will present - with plenty of data - the upcoming landscape, and will introduce ideas, strategies, and tactics necessary not only to withstand the impact that SGE will have but also to take advantage of its arrival, and how these strategies and tactics are not only necessary to maintain or improve visibility in Google but also in other ecosystems such as search on ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Bing Copilot.

Wisdom & Leadership in the AI Era
Global culture is rapidly transforming as digital technology, in particular AI, becomes an integrated aspect of how we see and engage with reality. Many leaders are challenged as they try to keep up with the growing complexity and demands of the hyper-paced digital economy while also leading their teams through this time of uncertainty and change. It is not enough to be agile and technologically savvy in these times. As various modern day philosophers have urged, it is emotional intelligence and mental flexibility, guided by a deeply informed value system, that will enable people to adapt and potentially thrive in these disruptive times. It is a nuanced understanding of the upside of human potential, and the mental discipline it requires to cultivate this, that will distinguish the leader of the future from an ordinary leader. The leader who can navigate this new climate, role-modeling the internal resources needed, such as self-awareness, presence, empathy and wisdom, can encourage their teams to move beyond fear and creatively participate in shaping this new era of possibility. A leader who recognizes that we must make progress in wisdom as fast as we make progress in technology.

How to Stay Afloat When You Feel Like You're Drowning - Mental Health and Social Media
Mental health is important, and nowadays it's being talked about more and more, fortunately. Jennifer started her career at 17, right in the midst of adolescence, which is why she feels like she only lived halfway. Jennifer will talk about the beginning of her career, torn between school and social anxiety, until she participated in Pechino Express, which aired during the pandemic and lockdown. During that time, her career further developed, as she started speaking on social media about mental health and the therapy journey she began since elementary school. Together with the audience, she will address the importance of discussing mental health, seeking help in difficult situations, and the social stigma associated with these issues.

Short story long: Consulting firms communicate poorly because communicating like this no longer works today
We are inclusive, innovative, and sustainable." "With us, you'll find a fresh and stimulating environment." "Resources are important to us." Yes, on social media, and then nothing is true. How many times have you experienced this boredom towards brand communication? Too many for me. Today, consulting firms are too focused on talking about their products and services, and this makes them very dull. What is needed? Talking about the needs of their target audience. Only in this way can turnover and frustration be reduced, and the best talents attracted. Because let's say it, this institutional communication is just from...consultants :)

Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Does Dignity, Freedom and Justice apply to all?
On 10 December 2023 the United Nations celebrated 75 years since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. This milestone document set out for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected and yet these rights continue to be infringed upon at will by the member states. With major geopolitical tensions spanning three continents the Middle East, Europe and Africa it's becoming increasingly clear that human rights do not apply to all, Dignity, Freedom and Justice is the privilege of the few. This panel will critically examine the state of geopolitics and put to test the Universal Declaration of Human Rights against gross human rights violations in the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

Intellectual Property Law in the Age of Artificial Intelligence - Ownership, Collaboration, and Inventorship
In the age of artificial intelligence, we find ourselves at the crossroads of innovation and ownership. The challenges surrounding AI-created inventions demand a closer look, from untangling the web of ownership rights to recognizing the collaborative efforts between humans and machines, and even contemplating the revolutionary idea of AI as inventors. Today, we explore the importance need for clear guidelines in this dynamic landscape. At the heart of the matter lies the question of intellectual Property ownership for AI-generated inventions. Without explicit guidelines, legal clarity, and comprehensive policies, the landscape becomes a breeding ground for ambiguity and potential disputes. To ensure a conducive environment for innovation and growth, it is essential to establish transparency which clearly defines ownership rights and responsibilities. Clear guidelines are the bedrock upon which the resolution of ownership challenges rests. These guidelines not only provide a roadmap for the direction of the complex terrain of AI ownership but also foster an environment conducive to innovation and collaboration. Without them, the potential benefits of AI technology may be hindered by legal uncertainties and disputes. Clear guidelines are not only a legal necessity; they are a catalyst for progress, ensuring that the fruits of AI's labour are attributed to the rightful owners. The narrative of AI inventions is one of collaboration, where human ingenuity merges with machine capabilities. This collaborative dance poses a challenge to traditional patent laws, designed primarily with human inventors in mind. Recognition of the unique contributions of both humans and machines is essential. Patent laws must adapt to acknowledge this symbiotic relationship, creating a legal framework that supports, rather than hinders, the collaborative nature of AI innovation. In this evolving saga, a provocative question emerges: can AI systems be recognized as inventors? And can humans who initiate the AI creation own the IP? As AI's autonomy and creativity expand, so does the need to reconsider our understanding of inventorship and intellectual property. The legal implications are profound, demanding a re-evaluation of existing frameworks to accommodate the changing dynamics of technological progress. The idea of AI as inventors challenges us to redefine creativity and innovation, sparking a paradigm shift in the legal landscape. In conclusion, the ownership challenges presented by AI inventions beckon us to establish clear guidelines, recognise the collaborative nature of human-AI partnerships and contemplate the groundbreaking notion of AI as inventors. As we stand at the threshold of technological progress, a commitment to clarity and adaptability in legal frameworks will not only resolve ownership challenges but will propel us into a future where innovation flourishes, unencumbered by legal uncertainties. Let us embrace this opportunity for progress and chart a course towards a harmonious coexistence of human ingenuity and artificial intelligence.

HOEPLI - THINKING THE FUTURE: Greg Hoffman – Designing Emotions - Lessons in creativity from a lifetime at Nike, with Cristiano Carriero and Riccardo Scandellari
Often, brands promote the "culture of identity," building teams around the personalities of leaders, thus avoiding dreamers with their eyes wide open, ignoring the taciturn because they assume that being introverted is a sign of weakness, and seeking those who resemble them. But often creative success comes from listening to people who don't think like us, from those dreamers who, faced with something taken for granted, look at you with a spark in their eyes and say, "What if..." We discuss this with Riccardo Scandellari and Cristiano Carriero, Hoepli authors, speakers, and branding experts.

Graphic Optimisation on Amazon: the power of design to achieve success stories
This speech is dedicated to the crucial importance of graphic optimisation on Amazon. In a universe of possibilities such as that offered by the world's largest e-commerce platform, it is essential to seize opportunities as effectively as possible. And this path starts with brand identity. Who would have thought that design could have such a profound impact even in a complex environment like Amazon? From the first image on our listing, our design strategy merges with our marketing strategy to increase CTR (Click Through Rate) and capture the attention of users. But we don't stop there. We move on to standard images, a process that balances information and style to deliver an engaging and informative experience. We then move on to A+ content, an often overlooked but crucial stage for conversion. And finally, we reach the store brand: no longer a simple catalogue, but a true e-commerce in which design plays a decisive role. With concrete examples of 'before and after', I will demonstrate how correct graphic optimisation can prevent a user from continuing to scroll, leading him instead to explore and eventually take the desired action. In conclusion, design is not just an aesthetic factor, but a key element for success on Amazon.

Reboot Internet! Who 'broke' the network? Who's responsible for fixing it?
Born as a space for creative freedom and democratic participation, the Internet has transformed into a vast arena dominated by economic interests. Valerio Bassan, author of the book "Rebooting the System: How We Broke the Internet and Why It's Up to Us to Fix It" (Chiarelettere, 2024), reconstructs the processes that have made the network increasingly akin to an "uninhabitable place," and reflects on how we can dismantle the monopolistic and extractive mechanisms governing the web.

Dear Design, how much do you cost me?
How do you deal with organisations that would desperately need design, but have no budget? The problem is that a service design project that is done well, that goes deeper (read: in which research is done properly), that does not merely replicate quick solutions tried and tested elsewhere, does indeed cost money, and is something that companies with a certain turnover or size, or at least a certain programmatic intention, can certainly afford. But those who do not have those resources, or those who have them but do not feel like taking the risk and investing in something they have never done before, are left out. However, if the governing principle of all design is 'try to do better with less' then we can try to apply it also to the estimates we present and the activities we put in place, in order to be able to offer something even to small realities: this is not the road to 'low cost' design, but rather a design challenge: how can we work while maintaining quality but better negotiating the activities actually needed and making the most of the resources already available?

DPIA, FRIA, CA: the AI assessments required by law
Today, there are various regulations that require companies and public administrations that provide or use artificial intelligence systems to conduct assessments on the impacts of AI and how these systems comply with the law. This is the case, for example, with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR): those intending to use an AI system must conduct a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA). Additionally, the AI Act, the new European law on artificial intelligence, requires conducting a Fundamental Rights Impact Assessment (FRIA) when using an AI system. The same law also introduces the obligation to conduct a Conformity Assessment (CA) to demonstrate the compliance of one's AI system with the requirements of the AI Act. This speech will present the various assessments that businesses and public entities must conduct on their AI systems to comply with legal obligations. It will explain how to conduct these evaluations and with what methodologies, highlighting points of contact and differences, while also focusing on the benefits that can arise from their correct and timely completion

Artificial Intelligence-Based Approaches for IoT Security and Detection of Anomalies
Today, with the rapid growth of internet and wireless communication technologies, studies in the field of IoT (Internet of Things) have also increased significantly. The use of IoT in the field of health is an example of these studies. IoT sensors used in the health sector offer opportunities such as closely monitoring patients and providing support to patients in the treatment process. However, the advantages provided by technological development bring along some important problems such as security.
From this perspective, it is seen that cyber-attacks on IoT devices used in healthcare environments can cause serious problems. Events such as the capture or modification of sensitive health data by malicious people can cause significant problems. Therefore, using a dataset containing real-world behaviours in IoT networks, we conducted a computational study focusing on predicting cyber-attacks such as replication, interception and modification of Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) messages using artificial intelligence algorithms.
The results of our scientific study are very promising. Besides traditional machine learning algorithms such as SVM and Naive Bayes, we also investigated the performance of LSTM, a deep learning algorithm, on the dataset we developed. The results revealed that the LSTM algorithm outperforms existing machine learning algorithms in detecting anomalous behaviour with low loss and high accuracy.
The results reveal that AI-based solutions can be effective in IoT security. We believe that in the future, research on the use of artificial intelligence in cyber security will be further developed and will become an effective tool for securing IoT devices.

How AI will bring value (and money) to women with cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary skills
The proliferation of artificial intelligences will eliminate many jobs, but will generate value and money in many creative fields. For example, there will be fewer computer and technical professionals, fewer employees in administrative offices, cashiers, and call centers. Conversely, in all professions and sectors, especially for top roles, humanistic skills, interdisciplinary knowledge, and soft skills will be increasingly in demand (and well-paid). The intervention explains how and why women are more capable of navigating these changes.

You don’t have to contribute to Open Source
There are amazing programmers who have zero commits in the public github repositories, yet they work with open source projects every day. Sometimes work commitments or maybe a full personal life make it hard to find time to contribute, and that’s not a problem, it shouldn’t make us feel guilty.Helping a colleague to use a technology, making it more accessible by spreading it among their links, are examples of activities that really benefit the entire ecosystem, but do not entitle them to a "badge".If you really want to contribute to open source, you should first learn what open source really means, and then we can talk about some tips on how to contribute effectively. But don’t feel "obligated" to do it. In this talk I will try to explain why.

Accessibility also involves the design of products, which can affect the user experience and more generally the autonomy of different categories of people in the various activities of daily life. Affiliate Marketing & Web3: between mindset and strategy.
Affiliate Marketing means working for one's own freedom. Rebelling against constraints, clients, schedules. This has been true since the early 2000s. And it's even more true in the Web3 era - the third wave of the web driven by decentralization and blockchain - where the biggest deals are made online. There are new markets, communities are fundamental. But traditional affiliate techniques and big tech are not dead yet, and marketing still relies on three magical words: mindset, persuasion, and strategy

Ai e creatività pubblicitaria: le forchette brutte e il pappagallo stocastico
If there is one trait that distinguishes humans from machines, it is creativity, that is, the ability to solve problems in novel ways. The _creative industry_ economy, which employs thousands of nerds in Milan and elsewhere, is based on this trait. One piece at a time we are handing over creative work to machines. Perhaps we will all go on holiday and perhaps we will learn to live in a cultural context in which all books, films and works of art are created by a non-human being. Let us reason together about the mechanisation of intellectual work and the consequences this revolution will have on the universe, on our lives and especially on the Instagram editorial plan that I have to deliver tomorrow at ten o'clock.
Web Accessibility: Beyond Compliance, a Competitive Advantage
Web accessibility should not be seen merely as a matter of compliance with regulations, but as a unique opportunity to expand the reach of your business. We will then move on to a more technical discussion, showing how to integrate accessibility into normal business workflows and how to practically write accessible code.

From the 'age of work' to the 'age of participation'. A Manifesto for Wealth Redistribution
The global media landscape is rapidly evolving due to continuous technological innovations, revolutionizing every aspect of our daily lives, work, and interpersonal relationships. However, this progress raises concerns about ethical, social, and economic implications, particularly regarding the asymmetry in wealth distribution. The proposal to address these challenges through a conceptual map that integrates technological innovations, wealth distribution, social impacts, and sustainability aims to provide an interconnected view of contemporary challenges. It seeks to imagine a new paradigm in which participation in network dynamics generates shared value, avoiding a drain of resources from the physical world to the virtual world

The rhythm of transformation: to create content that expresses itself
The sound changes everything: from selecting a music track for a crucial scene in a film, to immersive audio effects in a short; sound allows me to perceive, experience, and enjoy content in a completely unique way. But how did I transition from listening to creating? How has sound influenced my journey? When I create a video, I don't just produce images, but shape a universe that also unfolds through audio: tracks that can evolve into performances, yielding results beyond expectations. Can sounds capture attention? Can I create cross-platform content, with effective audio, even for Spotify? How much does a sound make a difference in what I create? The brain at the service of brands in 2024
In 2024, the idea of a brain serving brands represents
an exciting convergence of neuroscience and marketing, giving brands
unprecedented access to the minds of consumers. This approach, based on the
latest discoveries in neuroscience and artificial intelligence, allows
marketers to better understand consumers’ decision-making processes and adapt
their marketing strategies more precisely and effectively. Using neural data, brands can design more engaging and
memorable brand experiences. This could include tailoring advertising messages
based on individuals’ brain reactions or designing physical and digital
environments that positively stimulate consumers’ brains. With a better understanding of how the brain works,
marketers can optimize communication to maximize impact. This includes the use
of colors, words and images that positively activate brain regions associated
with attention, memory and emotions. The brain at the service of brands offers enormous
potential to improve the effectiveness of marketing strategies and create more
meaningful brand experiences for consumers. However, it is critical that this
power is used responsibly, balancing innovation with ethical and privacy
considerations. The speech will present the latest research on this
topic and present application case studies.

Vanilla JS: You Might Not Need that Library
Every couple of months, a new JavaScript library is hitting the scene, each promising to fix our previous coding dilemmas. But what if we took a step back and revisited the fundamentals with good old Vanilla JS in 2024? Let's talk about embracing the simplicity and speed of development that comes with a 'vanilla' approach. This session is all about exploring how to craft rich web apps and websites using nothing but core JavaScript and browser APIs—no dependencies and all the power! Chronicity, Illness, and Social Representation: Reflections from a Clinical Perspective
In recent years, the representation of endometriosis, PCOS, vulvodynia, fibromyalgia, PMDD, and other conditions related to chronic pain, gynecological, and systemic issues on social networks has exponentially increased. The social representation of illnesses (both physical and mental) constitutes a valuable resource for both users and professionals: patients and users can find a community, information, discussion, and support; clinical staff can use these spaces for scientific dissemination, awareness raising, and direct communication with users. However, social spaces can also facilitate the spread of inaccurate information and polarization. This contribution therefore has a dual objective: the first is to reflect, from the perspective of a person working in the clinical field, on ways to bring users and professionals closer together, using social media to bridge the gap between these two groups of people; the second is to provide insights into the limitations, negative aspects, and potentially risky aspects of the social representation of chronicity and illness, and to propose strategies to minimize them.

HOEPLI - THINKING THE FUTURE: It Takes Courage - For a sustainable and inclusive company
Courage in the workplace is not a heroic and solitary gesture but can become an alliance, the courage of many. There is a new way of doing inclusive business, and Sara Taddeo will explain it to us, prodded by her interviewers. It's easy to talk about courage, but without concrete examples, one doesn't get far. In her book, Sara shares reflections, anecdotes, thoughts, conversations, ideas, models, opinions, stories, and even some tools. And, above all, courageous professional experiences. Because our courage always influences that of the people around us and, if well directed, it can become collective courage and social responsibility.

GENERATIONS IN COMPARISON - Marketing and communicating with five generations of users
Tell the truth: how many times have you listened to your boss thinking "Ok boomer" or looked at the young intern wondering if they knew how to do anything besides scrolling on their smartphone? Today, we are required to always be up to date or even ahead of the market, but the problem is that decisions are often made by people with different mindsets who are forced to collaborate. The risk that generational stereotypes may cause us to miss incredible opportunities is too great to be overlooked: on stage, Rachele Focardi, author of "Generazioni a confronto", will confront a Millennial and a Gen Z to help us understand how to avoid it.

The dark side of the hyperconnected reality
Refrigerators that do the shopping for us, cars that drive while we read a book, software that works for us. But also, televisions that listen to our conversations, algorithms that profile our tastes, spyware ready to sneak into our smartphones to steal our data. Digital transformation is changing our relationship with the world: "things" are becoming increasingly intelligent, bringing us a more comfortable life and endless opportunities, but also ever-new risks. And the possibility of controlling them, of course, albeit at the cost of gradually sacrificing our freedom. Are we really 'Watched and Happy"?

Adopting Generative AI: An Operational Readiness Framework for Businesses
The real value of Generative AI lies in its large scale adoption. As per the report by BCG, around 40% of businesses have taken no action, 50% are piloting, and only 10% have been able to scale successfully, causing a huge gap between lagging and scaling firms. Most of the pilots are randomly selected in silos without a long term adoption strategy in place, without involvement of the cross functional team and support form the leadership. With this approach, most of the pilots will fail to make it to production. An operational readiness framework can mitigate this gap and improve the chances of successful scaled Generative AI adoption

Why promoting your product will NOT increase your sales
When we think of sales we think that need to speak and communicate about our products and services constantly. But the question becomes is how many times can you talk about the same product? It gets boring. People don’t want to be sold. People want to be inspired. Make peace with power: understanding organizations as they are, not as we would like them to be
The power does not enjoy a good reputation. Statements like 'less power and more leadership' and pre-packaged recipes on how to lead a group fill books and articles. The role of AI in disinformation and misinformation: how to promote the quality and reliability of news
According to the World Economic Forum Global Risks Report 2024, manipulation and falsification of information represent the most serious short-term risk to the world. In the next two years, misinformation and disinformation will be the greatest challenges to the democratic process. This risk is amplified by the widespread use of generative AI in the production of so-called "synthetic content." Digital Empathy - Why we fall in love with machines and are not reciprocated
Anthropomorphic and humanoid robotics are becoming more and more like human beings, as are digital avatars. Thanks to artificial intelligence, their way of relating to us will become more and more indistinguishable from the way human beings relate to each other. This is a 'Turing test' of a higher level, and we will slowly begin to attribute to machines (physical or digital) feelings similar to ours, with very interesting implications on a technical, marketing and social level. This will lead machines to simulate states of consciousness and affection, and will lead humans to develop affection and love for them as well, with questions that we will have to start answering. For example: can a machine have civil rights? Can it be directly responsible for the things it does? Can it be the object of a human being's love or the subject of that love itself? There will then be a new type of 'product' that will take a special place in our lives, a road entirely to be explored.

#SaveSSN: together to protect the National Healthcare Service.
Back in 2013, the GIMBE Foundation launched the "Save Our National Health Service (NHS)" campaign to raise awareness among decision makers, professionals and citizens about the need to put the NHS back at the center of public debate and the political agenda. But after 11 years we are actually sliding from an SSN established to protect a fundamental right to 21 regional health systems based on the laws of the free market. Universality, equality and fairness have been betrayed, with serious health and economic consequences for people. That is why the GIMBE Foundation launched the civic network #SalviamoSSN, to actively engage everyone in protecting and revitalizing the SSN.

Discriminations Produced by Data: How to Narrate Them and Raise Awareness
We live in a data-informed era where the expression "it's in the data" seems to be the mantra for the objectivity and reliability of all kinds of content, from political to media-driven. With a feminist approach, however, we will observe how data, far from being neutral tools, are instead social constructs and reflect the biases and contexts in which they are collected, influencing our narratives of reality.

The Imperfect Algorithm: Why AI's Flaws Are Its Greatest Strength
The paradox of Artificial Intelligence is that we are talking about a revolutionary yet inherently imperfect technology. However, the flaws of AI are not a limitation but the key to its potential. AI, being a human creation, reflects our own imperfections, and this characteristic can drive innovation and growth. That's why we must embrace imperfection and see AI in a new light, highlighting how the symbiosis between humans and machines can lead to a future where the imperfections of both complement each other.

The future of AI ethics
A retrospective study shows that the future of AI technologies has never been aligned to our previous expectations. As a consequence, AI ethics, i.e. the branch of philosophy that aims to provide rules of behavior in a world shaped by AI, cannot be limited to risk avoidance, because the opportunities and dangers of the technologies cannot be fully anticipated. We will show that future AI ethics will be neither a legal regulation, nor a set of norms, but a working methodology.

What are DAOs and why do they have a promising future?
DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations) represent an evolution in the business sector thanks to decentralization. They consist of a treasury (a series of digital assets), a smart contract (operational rules), and a community (a group of interested parties). Maker DAO is one of the most well-known examples, with a treasury of around $7 billion. Similar to traditional corporations, DAOs operate with complete autonomy through smart contracts, although they are sometimes critically labeled as DINO (Dao In Name Only) due to excessive marketing use. There is a growing interest in a regulated approach at both the European and Italian levels, exploring DAOs as Delegated Authorized Organizations
